A BIBLIOGRAPHY OF LOUISIANA LAW

LAW REPORTS

Southern Reporter (West Publishing, now in its second series) West publishes both a Louisiana-only compilation called Southern Reporter, Louisiana Cases as well as a Southern Reporter which includes the reports of Louisiana and other southern states. It has published Louisiana Supreme Court decisions since 1887 and Louisiana Court of Appeal decisions since 1928. In the 20th century, an official version of state Supreme Court cases , Louisiana Reports, was published until 1972.

Westlaw and Lexis-Nexis each now feature complete runs of published decisions covering the Supreme Court back to 1813 and the Court of Appeal back to 1881. Both also include the pre-statehood and territorial reports
published between 1809 and 1812.

CONSTITUTION AND LEGISLATION

The text of Louisiana’s Constitution of 1974, as amended, and the text of the current laws are published in West’s Louisiana Statutes Annotated. This set includes the Revised Statutes, the Civil Code, Code of Civil Procedure,
and the other codes on specific subjects, such as evidence, criminal procedure, and the Children’s Code. The compilation is updated annually with pocket supplements. Each year West publishes an non-annotated paperbound version called Louisianan Statutes: Compact Edition. Annual paperbound annotated versions of many of the separate codes such as The Civil Code and Code of Civil Procedure can be purchased separately. The Louisiana Civil Code (ed. A.N.Yiannopoulos) is published annually by Thomson-West.
